Is completing the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) on your bucket
list of things to accomplish in your life?
If interested, please read on for my proposal of how to tackle a good
portion of Washington’s PCT this summer
and fall, 2013:
The total length of the trail is about 500 miles. You can view the entire length of the trail
on Google Earth at http://www.pctmap.net/download/p/gearth.html
.My proposed plan is to break up most of it in to five or six long weekends
from June to October. The Pacific Crest trail data book divides Washington’s
PCT into five sections H,I, J, K, and L.
To break sections up into smaller pieces I use the terms
“jaunts”,“legs”, and “stints”, where:
“jaunts”-refer to the full weekend or long weekend excursion
“legs”-refer subsections of a jaunt where our group can
potentially be aided with car camping assists
“stints”-refer to subsections of a jaunt where there is no
potential car camping assists-fast packing
I propose following dates for jaunts generally starting
Friday morning and finishing Sunday evening.
6/14-6/16
55 miles-Columbia River to somewhere before Mt. Adams-Section H-fast pack. Click on side panel link "Columbia River to Mt. Adams" for planning details.
7/12-7/14
77 miles fast pack-Section Stevens Pass to Snoqualmie Pass to Stevens
Pass
8/30-9/3
98 miles fast pack-Section K-Stevens Pass to Stehekin-4 stints, Friday Afternoon, Saturday, Sunday, Monday morning.
9/13-9/15
98.3 miles-Section I-White Pass to Snoqualmie Pass-3 legs
9/27-9/30
75 miles-Section H-White Pass to Mt. Adams- 2 legs, tough
10/5-make up
10/12-make up

Looking forward to doing a couple of these
